Kilmeny Niland's 'Two Tough Teddies'

'Two tough teddies' is a picture book about two teddy bears, Tilly and Gruffy, who have been dumped in a park and try to find someone to love them, written by a wonderful Australian author.
Niland’s story is touching and she personifies objects that young readers tend to love a lot as it shows their point of view on how to be loved by someone. This picture book does have a bit more story to it, but the language is simple and readers will be able to pick up and follow the story easily. It would also be a good book to read with different voices and actions as the story progresses.
The pictures are beautiful. Even looking at the bears makes you feel like they are soft and cuddly. I especially enjoyed their eyes, for while they are not full of expression, they still seem very alive and real on the page. There is a lot of detail put into the pictures and the colouring and tone of the images is wonderful.
I think this story has a lot of heart and children would enjoy reading it and looking over the illustrations. The bears are particularly delightful to observe on the page.
